Have Wings, Can’t Fly:

Even If You Have Wonderful Abilities

 Self-Doubt Can Keep You Stuck

A healthy, positive sense of your worth is empowering.

'Build your Light' Coaching is aimed at women, who, while dealing with challenges, want to reclaim a belief in themselves and their abilities.

'Build your Light' helps you:

1. Honour your life’s story, and use your past, even difficult parts, to build a better future.

2. Identify your values and strengths.

3. Practice self-compassion.

4. Build your own step-by-step action plan.

The biggest obstacles aren’t always out there, sometimes it's the inner obstacles, like low self confidence that keeps you stuck.

Self-belief is mainly formed in childhood, from our experiences and the things we hear. We internalize these messages, which define our future action.

But often the stuff we take in isn’t true. A perfect example of this is an experiment where teachers were told certain kids were bright and others were stupid (it wasn’t true; the kids all had similar IQ’s). But the teachers treated the kids differently. Treating some kids as intelligent and others as stupid had profound effects. Those labelled smart excelled, those labelled stupid struggled, even years after they left school.

It’s not only in childhood.

All kinds of things can knock self-belief: abuse, divorce, illness, disability, work problems, study problems etc. Estrangement from our true selves leaves us feeling disempowered. A woman leading a good, but overly busy life, with no down-time for quiet introspection (to connect with her true self) can feel her self-belief weaken and become shaky.

Often clients want to achieve, but feel blocked.

Transformational coaching is about fixing the underlying problem, strengthening your core, finding your centrepoint ie becoming centred in your best self, so you can achieve success.

The 4 Wheels of 'Build Your Light' Coaching

'Build Your Light' Coaching is based on the model of a 4 wheel drive car. Why? Because 4WD cars are designed to get us out of trouble...stuck in mud, road washed away by rain, snow, sleet, out in the wilds with no path, only sand dunes...by engaging all 4 wheels at the same time 4WD cars get us going through the rough.

What are the 4 wheels of 'Build Your Light'Coaching?

Wheel One: Your Story

Your life story is precious, it is the beginning of your journey.

Wheel Two: Strengths and Values

Self-belief begins with a sense of who you are and what you stand for.

Wheel Three: Self-Compassion

One of the most empowering things you can do is to find your centrepoint: the inner place where you feel calm, capable and at ease. But how do you get there?

By caring for yourself, and practicing self-compassion.

Wheel Four: Action

Action  needs planning, awareness of the obstacles, opportunities and development of a clear way forward.

I came across a quote once that said: 'mistakes are a learning experience',

how can you use your past experiences, both the good and the 'oops' ones, to help you succeed?

My Qualifications

Life Coaching is a passion. Many years ago in a psychology class at UCT, a lecturer told us that most people only use 10% of their potential. Since then I've been focused on helping people find ways to unlock their potential. Over and again I notice with my clients that even those who have gone through challenging times,  have the most remarkable abilities to grow and achieve once they get in touch with their true selves. It's kind of like a diamond dropped in the mud, sometimes we spend so much time in the mud we forget we are a jewel, wash off the muck and the diamond begins to sparkle again.
